CityDesk Float Utility Installation Notes

Requirements before you download: As usual, my setup.exe file for this downloadable tool/utility does not contain the VB6 runtime modules or any of the Microsoft Data Access Component (MDAC) files.  These are common files that are often already in place on your hard drive.  If you are not sure, you should download the latest copies directly from Microsoft.  See this page for a list of common downloads and links.

Specifically, for the CityDesk Utility setup, you need...

• The bdCityDeskAPI COM DLL, which is included in the setup.  There is an alternative setup without the DLL, in case you have installed it already and don't want to reinstall it.  There is a good reason why you might not want it to be reinstalled: to keep the current copy of the DLL matched up with its .CHM help file, in case you use the DLL for your own programming projects and want the ability to have context-sensitive help in the IDE.
• Microsoft's MDAC runtime package.  This is not included, so use the link to common downloads, found above.
• The Visual Basic runtime modules.  This is not included, so use the link to common downloads, found above.

From the download page, click the link to CityDesk "Float" Utility.  When prompted by your browser, save the file somewhere on your hard drive, and remember where.

After download is complete, find the exe file and run it.  It is a self-extracting archive created with WinZip.  By default it will suggest unzipping to your Windows Temp directory, but you can change that.

Once you unzip it, go to the target folder and run setup.exe.  This will install two files:

• bdCityDeskFloat.exe -- the program itself
• bdCityDeskAPI.dll -- a DLL that is required by the program.  This is DLL is available separately as well and you might find it useful if you do some programming.

Your Program menu will also now have a shortcut to the utility.
