The bdCityDeskFloat utility is a very simple program whose purpose in life is to give you another hierarchical "tree view" into your CityDesk site database file in order to show some of the info that CityDesk does not show in its tree view.

For instance, as a CityDesk user I write most of my articles in the built-in editor.  However there are times when I need to use an external HTML editor such as HomeSite.  When I do that, I may have a need to paste in some of CityDesk's "Magic Names".  With bdCityDeskFloat, I can "float" the tree view of my CityDesk site by keeping it "on top" of all other windows (such as HomeSite), and then click any article in the hierarchy and a be presented with several of the CityDesk field values in text labels that are click-and-dragable into another window.  See the sample screenshot using HomeSite as an example.

In the screenshot, the visible portion of HomeSite 5.0 is on the left.  I've circled the location where I would like to put in the Magic Name of a particular article.  I have bdCityDeskFloat floating on the right, and I click on the Magic Name and drag it directly into HomeSite.  I could do the same with Teaser, Headline, etc., if I wanted to.

The program uses the bdCityDeskAPI.dll, an in-process COM Automation server that helps find stuff inside your CityDesk file.  If you program in VB or in one of the Windows Scripting languages, you might be interested in this dll, in which case you should go to its download page here.
